Papers of the Fairfax family, 1720-1844 (bulk 1720-1794).

Include deeds, leases, bonds, and miscellaneous legal papers of the Fairfax family estate, particularly of Lord Thomas Fairfax, for land in Prince William, Frederick, Loudoun, and Fauquier counties, Va., Hampshire County (later W. Va.), and in the Northern Neck. Among the contractees are Robert Carter and Denny Fairfax. Also include Pughton, Frederick County, Va., returns in the presidential election of 1844; and notes from the Bank of the Valley of Virginia.

This land grant was issued in 1741 by Thomas, 6th Lord Fairfax, Baron of Cameron, to Richard Brown (d. 1745), descendent of Quaker minister William Brown. The grant was one of five that Richard Brown had received in Virginia's Northern Neck; at the time of his death, he owned a total of 2,774 acres in Loudoun County.
